UncategorisedNetball Is Good For Your Elf!

Well we will find out on Sunday 6th December 2020!

Bassetlaw Belles NC are organising an Elf themed mini netball tournament in support of the Alzheimers Society. One of our players is a clinical psychologist in Rotherham Mental Health Services for Older People. Gemma’s job involves working with people with dementia from diagnosis right through to the later stages of the illness. These are her words “Dementia occurs in people of all ages, although it is more common in later life. Around one in fourteen people over the age of 65 are living with the condition, with around 44% of people in the UK having directly or indirectly affected.”

“Whilst we can safely say that 2020 has been a challenge for us all, the impact of the pandemic, lockdown, restrictions on visiting and social distancing has carried a huge cost to people living with dementia and those who love and care for them. Over the last few months we have seen peoples’ physical health deteriorate due to lack of exercise, malnutrition and lack of access to routine healthcare. Many peoples’ dementia and mental health has deteriorated due to a lack of stimulation or connection with those they love. We have also seen many people move into care homes because of the increased isolation and strain on carers. The Altheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity.. Their work includes campaigning for social change, funding research and providing national and local support for people living with dementia.”

It would be great if 2020 could be remembered for something positive in supporting this charity. As well as the netball tournament (£5.00 per player entry fee) dressed as elves we have a virtual Christmas raffle, shooting games and more. We will be at Manton Sports Centre from 9am. Spectators are welcome but are not permitted to be in the court area and must comply with current UK Government guidelines in respect of social distancing. The tournament itself will be COVID compliant and we will be playing with the modified rules.

If you are interested in getting involved either playing, donating a raffle prize or buying raffle tickets then please get in touch or turn up on the day. We are looking to create a whole load of festive fun on the day as well as supporting the important work of this wonderful charity.

Thank you

Lindsey
